2. Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions
When using this printer driver, the following restrictions apply. Please read them beforehand.
Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions When Installing
If you switch the user privileges on the computer you are using when installing, the driver may not install correctly. If this happens, log in again with Administrator privileges and reinstall the driver.
To use this printer driver, the printer's firmware should be updated to the newest version. For details, contact the support center.
When you overwrite update or uninstall the printer driver, the printer driver files may be locked by Windows so that you cannot update or uninstall them. To solve this problem, restart the computer, then update or delete the printer driver. For details, refer to Microsoft Support Article KB940523 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940523/).
If both a printer driver (or fax driver) and a USB-compliant scanner driver are not installed, a device connected by USB is recognized as new hardware, and although the following may occur, driver operations will not be affected.
Windows 8.1/10: The relevant printer(s) in the [Devices and Printers] folder are in a warning state.
The driver is still operable in these states. To avoid these phenomena, install the USB-compliant scanner driver (Color Network ScanGear 2 USB). For instructions on how to install the scanner driver, see the readme file provided with the driver.
In this printer driver, there is a function for automatically acquiring the configuration information of connected devices during installation. To automatically acquire configuration information, you must configure the following settings on the control panel of the device(s) before installation.
WSD port
In WSD printing for [Network], set [Use WSD Browsing] to ON.
TCP/IP port
In the SNMP settings for [Network], set [Retrieve Printer Mgmt. Info. from Host] to ON.
If the device configuration information cannot be correctly acquired during installation and is not reflected in the printer driver, perform the following procedure.
(1) On the control panel of the device, turn [Use WSD Browsing] on.
(2) In the [Support/Device] sheet of the print settings screen of this printer driver, click [Device Settings].
(3) In the [Device Settings] sheet, click [Retrieve Device Information].
The items in the [Device Settings] sheet are updated with the acquired information.
If the information cannot be acquired, set each item manually.
If connected by a TCP/IP port, there may be cases where the configuration information of multiple devices cannot be automatically acquired. If this is the case, connect using a WSD port or click [Retrieve Device Information] in the [Device Settings] sheet to acquire the configuration information.
If you associate this printer driver when installing with a port to which another printer driver is already associated, the configuration information of the device(s) may no longer be able to be correctly acquired. If this is the case, change the driver associated with the port to one printer model only of this printer driver.
When updating the printer driver version for the same printer model using the inf file, the driver settings are not transferred when you select [Replace the current driver] and perform an overwrite installation. Configure the device and print setting again after installation. Even if the settings appear to have been transferred correctly, they may not work correctly, therefore be sure to click [OK] after configuring them in the [Device Settings] sheet and print settings screen to update them.
You can use spaces, special characters, and long names when entering printer names during installation or when changing printer names in the printers folder. However, in applications, printer names that exceed 32 characters or use special characters may not be recognized, depending on the application. Also, when sharing printers, exceeding 32 characters or using special characters may result in unexpected problems. For details, refer to Microsoft Support Online, KB240082 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240082/), KB878514 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/878514/), and KB2444599 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2444599/).
Printer models that match the language environment of the computer you are using are displayed in [Printer List] in the installer. For the Japanese language environment, LIPSLX/CARPS2 printer models only are displayed. For other languages, UFR II/UFRII LT printer models only are displayed.
If you are using Server Core in a Windows Server operating system, use the operating system installation function. You cannot use the printer driver installer.
Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions When Printing
This printer driver is for printing from applications that print using XPS. Although it is also possible to print from applications that print using the older GDI (Microsoft Office etc.), print jobs may not be printed correctly due to function compatibility related problems.
If you cancel printing when printing from an application, a temporary file may be left in the following folder. If the file is left in the folder after printing has stopped, delete it directly from the folder and restart Windows. At this time, an error message telling you that the print filter pipeline host has stopped operating may also be displayed.
%Systemroot%\System32\spool\PRINTERS
When using Point and Print (with a shared printer driver on a print server), if the user name and password registered in the print server and the log in user name and password of the computer you are using to print do not match, the printer driver does not operate correctly. Although the user name and password already match and do not cause a problem in the domain environment, they must be made to match in the Workgroup environment.
Immediately after installation of the printer driver (including upgrades), some applications may not be able to recognize that a printer driver has been installed, and operation errors such as print settings not being effective may occur. If this happens, exit and restart Windows.
If a document with an odd number of pages is printed from an application with two-sided printing selected, a blank page may be automatically inserted to adjust the number of pages to an even number, depending on the application. If this happens, the blank page inserted by the application is included in the page count.
Regardless of whether a digital signature is or is not attached to an XPS file, or has been falsified, the printer driver will ignore this digital signature and print the file.
When you set collating in the printer driver, if there is an application in which collating can be set, the collating setting of the application has priority. Even if you open the printer driver from the printers folder to specify the collating setting, the application setting has priority.
For example, a document output from Microsoft Word that uses settings that also exist in the printer driver, will be printed with the application's settings having priority over the printer driver settings.
If the printer is configured with a WSD port, print jobs may remain in the print queue for a while after being printed. In this case, if you allow WSD in Windows Firewall, the print job is deleted from the print queue at the same time as output from the device finishes.
If the printer is configured with a WSD port, changes to the state of printer options may not be reflected in the [Device Settings] sheet of the printer driver. If this happens, it should be rectified by allowing WSD in Windows Firewall, then restarting the computer.
There may be cases where, if there is an object created in an application, streak-like lines may appear or the colors may change in the same object in the printed result. This is due to object attributes changing while data is being converted by Windows, and is an inherent limitation.
There may be cases where, if there is an image created in an application, gaps may appear in the same image in the printed result. This is due to one image being separated into multiple images while data is being converted by Windows, and is an inherent limitation.
Where the application is provided with magnification settings, set the desired magnification ratio from the application.
When increasing or reducing the size of a document to fit the output paper size, the margins of output pages and posters may be larger than usual.
If you configure print settings with scaling, there may be changes in the printed result such as streaks appearing in the printed result, due to errors between the magnification ratio and resolution.
Nothing is printed in the area 5 mm inward from the top, bottom, left, and right edges of the paper. However, this area may be printed on, depending on the application. If this happens, set the top, bottom, left, and right margins in the application to 5 mm or more.
Even if 5 mm has been specified for the margins in an application, images that are close to the margins may not be printed. Also, depending on the print settings, images that are normally not cut off even when close to the margins may be cut off during printing.
Depending on the application, there may be cases where lines drawn at an angle close to the horizontal cannot be printed correctly. In this case, the situation may be improved by setting [Support/Device] sheet > [Troubleshooting] > [Print diagonal lines at high speed] to [Off].
If you select [Collate] in the [Print] dialog box in Microsoft Excel, and print multiple copies or specify [Entire workbook] to print all worksheets with difference print settings, you may not get the desired print results for N-up and 2-sided printing. Also, if you print using Department ID Management (Job Accounting), the confirmation dialog box may be displayed multiple times.
If you are using Microsoft Excel, and you select [Entire workbook] in the print dialog box when printing, do so with the first worksheet selected. If you do so with a worksheet other than the first worksheet selected, settings related to page output, such as collating, may be disabled. For details, refer to Microsoft Support Article KB2526211 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2526211/).
Depending on the application, a line whose width has been set at less than 1 point may be printed as a line of 1 point width.
If data is saved with units set to inches, the data may not be saved correctly. This is because data is stored within the printer driver in microns (micrometers), which causes a rounding off error during unit conversion calculation.
Where drawing data whose colors are transparent exist, the base colors of the transparent part may differ.
In drawing data created in an application, where the start and end points of a curved line are the same, slight gaps may occur in the printed result due to errors.
For some printers whose configuration does not enable use of a multi-purpose tray, if you specify a paper size that can only be supplied from a multi-purpose tray, such as envelope, printing may not be performed and an error may occur at the printer. If this happens, select a paper size that can be supplied from a drawer.
When you change the print settings from the printer driver screen in Microsoft Office, the selections that are normally available in the Microsoft Office print settings screen may not be displayed or may be grayed out and unselectable. This is because Microsoft Office controls the print settings when the application starts, or the printer settings when switching printers, so that these settings are not displayed or are grayed out. To solve this problem, close Microsoft Office, change the default print settings in the printer driver from the printers folder, and restart Microsoft Office. For details, refer to Microsoft Support Article KB983111 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/983111/).
If you change the name of an account by clicking [Change your account name] in [User Accounts] in the [Control Panel], the setting for [Logon name] in the [Device Settings] sheet > [Default User Name] > the [Name to Use] is not changed. This [Logon name] is linked to the user name in Windows and differs from the account name. The Windows user name is changed from [Computer Management] in [Administrative Tools] under [System and Maintenance] in the [Control Panel]. When using the computer in a domain environment, you must contact the system administrator.
If the printer is configured with a WSD port, if you attempt to force printing with an incorrect ID and password while [Department ID Management] is active, the printer may stop and no longer print thereafter. You can resume printing by restarting the printer.
If an image in a page is in RGB format, it will be counted as color data even if it is a black-and-white image.
If you print data that includes text with large fonts, those fonts are drawn as graphic data and hence may differ from other text within the data in terms of color etc.
If a paper size that supports 2-sided printing (e.g. A4) and a paper size that does not support 2-sided printing (e.g. envelope) are both contained within a single document, the assigned gutter position on the front and back of the paper may differ. In this case, print those pages that support 2-sided printing and those that do not separately.
The items under [Form To Tray Assignment] displayed from the [Printer properties] > the [Device Settings] sheet do not work.
If you are using a shared printer and the connection to the printer is via USB, job canceling does not work.
Print settings displayed in applications used from the desktop (Microsoft Office etc.) and print settings displayed in Windows Store apps and Windows apps (Mail, Photos, Reader, etc.) may differ. Since these are functions provided by Windows, they are limited.
The names in [Paper Size] displayed in applications used from the desktop (Microsoft Office etc.) and [Paper Size] displayed in Windows Store apps and Windows apps (Mail, Photos, Reader, etc.) may differ. Since this is a function provided by Windows, it is limited.
If characters that cannot be used when saving files ("/","*", etc.) are included in the print queue name, the print settings caching process in Windows Store apps and Windows apps (Mail, Photos, Reader, etc.) does not work. This is a limitation of Windows.
If [Layout] sheet > [Pages per Sheet] in the standard Windows print settings screen cannot be set at the same time as other items, the [Pages per Sheet] settings may not be displayed correctly.
Microsoft PowerPoint performs printing according to the color setting values of the print settings. If you specify [Pure Black and White] in the color settings for PowerPoint, the document will be printed in grayscale in this printer driver. Also, you cannot specify [Color] in the color settings and print in black and white. This is because [Black & White] in the printer driver and [Grayscale] in PowerPoint, and [Color] in the printer driver and [Color] in PowerPoint are respectively linked to each other. You can disconnect the link with the printer driver by changing the registry settings of PowerPoint. For details, see article KB2885877 in Microsoft Support Online (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2885877/).
There may be cases where the message "Could not print" is displayed and the document cannot be printed when attempting to print from a Windows Store app or Windows app (Mail, Photos, Reader, etc.). This may occur when there is insufficient memory or the display driver does not support the Windows Store app or Windows app. Such cases may be improved by using a computer that is guaranteed to work with the operating system you are using.
When configuring the settings of a device that supports expanded printer functions, use the [Device Settings] sheet that is displayed when you click [Device Settings] in the [Support/Device] sheet of the print settings screen of the printer driver. Do not use the [Printer properties] > [Device Settings] sheet.
In a shared printer (point and print) environment, the standard Windows print settings screen may be displayed even for devices that support expanded printer functions. If this happens, the situation can be improved by installing this printer driver in the client computer.
In a shared printer (point and print) environment, if you install this printer driver in Windows RT, the print settings screen for expanded printer functions is not displayed.
When using the [Secure Print] or [Department ID Management] function, set a user name, department ID, and password before printing. You cannot set these during printing.
In the [User Account Control] dialog box that is displayed when you click [Change Administrator Settings] in the [Administrator Settings] sheet, "Publisher: Unknown" is displayed. If this happens, click "Yes".
The print settings screen for expanded printer functions may be displayed below other windows. If so, move the other windows so that the print settings screen is displayed.
When you configure print settings from the standard Windows print settings screen or an application, functions that are not supported by the device you are using and functions that cannot be set at the same time are displayed. To solve this problem, use the print settings screen for expanded printer functions.
If you select a custom paper size that is the same size as a standard paper size, some print settings cannot be configured at the same time, as with the standard paper size. To solve this problem, change the size of the custom paper to a size whose height or width differs from the standard size by 0.25 mm or more.
If you print specifying a long horizontal custom paper size, the print data may not be rotated and may be partly cut off when printing. If this happens, change to a long vertical custom paper size and print again.
If you are connected via USB, when you cancel a print job while it is printing, the remaining data may still be output.
If you select a custom paper in the print settings screen for expanded printer functions, although you can set some functions that are unusable, these are not reflected in the print result. Functions that you can use when selecting custom paper are the same as the functions that you can use when selecting [Specify Page/Output Size] for [Page Size] or [Output Size] in the [Main] sheet of the print settings screen.
If you are using the user authentication function, if you do not set [Restrict Remote Device Job w/out User Auth.] in the control panel of the device to ON, you may not be able to correctly use the user authentication function. Also, if [Department ID Management] is set to ON in the printer driver, printing may be performed using the department ID management function even if [User Authentication] is set to ON.
If you change the user name set in the printer driver when performing secure printing, depending on the device you are using, the print job may disappear. If this happens, set the same user name in the device and the driver.
If you print with [Page Layout] and [Booklet Printing] specified simultaneously, the actual number of printed pages may not be correctly reflected in the total result of the page layout displayed in the job history, depending on the device you are using.
