1. Restrictions and Cautions
If you are using a USB connection, and finish installing the MF Scan Utility without connecting the device and computer with a USB cable, an application selection screen may be displayed when you scan from the device. In a case such as this, specifying an application according to the following procedure will stop the screen being displayed.
1. Connect the device and computer with a USB cable → turn on the device.
2. Log on to the computer with an administrator account.
3. Select [View devices and printers] from [Control Panel].
4. Right-click the icon for your device → click [Scan properties].
5. Click the [Event] tab → select [Start this program] → select [MF Scan Utility].
If you have applications that are compatible with the device you are using, you can specify and use an application other than the MF Scan Utility.
If you are saving a scanned image as a keyword-searchable PDF file, you can improve recognition of white characters on dark backgrounds by scanning according to the following procedure.
1. In the main screen of the MF Scan Utility, click [Settings].
2. In the [Settings] Dialog Box, click the [Document] icon button.
3. Select [Create a PDF file that supports keyword search] in [Save Settings] → click [OK].
4. In the main screen of the MF Scan Utility, click the [Document] icon button.
If you are saving a scanned image in a high compression level PDF format, part of the image may be blank if you scan by clicking [Document] in the main screen of the MF Scan Utility. You may be able to improve the result by scanning according to the following procedure.
1. In the main screen of the MF Scan Utility, click [Settings].
2. In the [Settings] Dialog Box, click an icon button other than [Document], such as [Photo] or [Custom].
3. Select [PDF (Divide into Single-Page Files)]/[PDF] from [Save Settings] > [Data Format] → select [High] from [PDF Compression] → click [OK].
4. In the main screen of the MF Scan Utility, click the same icon button you clicked in step 2.
2. Regarding Applications
The e-mail automatic file attachment functions supports the following e-mail software.
Microsoft Outlook Express
Microsoft Outlook
Windows Mail
Becky! Ver.2
Mozilla Thunderbird
If the software is e-mail software that supports MAPI, you can use it by selecting, in the main screen of the MF Scan Utility, [Settings] > [Application Settings] > [Attach to e-mail]/[E-mail Client] > [Add], and selecting the executable file of the e-mail software in the displayed [Select Application] dialog box.
If you are using e-mail software other than that above, in the main screen of the MF Scan Utility, select [Settings] > [Application Settings] > [Attach to e-mail]/[E-mail Client] > [None (Attach Manually)], and manually attach the file that you saved after scanning.
Even if you register a DTP application such as Microsoft Publisher or Adobe PageMaker in the MF Scan Utility, you may not be able to scan images. If this happens, scan from the application or insert the image.
If, prior to clicking an icon button in the main screen of the MF Scan Utility, the application associated with that icon button is already running, the scanned image may not be sent to the application. If this happens, quit the application, then click the icon button again in the main screen of the MF Scan Utility.
