Installing the Fax Driver
To use this fax driver with software applications that operate with Microsoft Windows, use the following installation procedure.
NOTE
|
If you use a SMB (NetBIOS network) printer as a shared printer on the server computer, use the Add Printer Wizard, and select "Network printer" when installing the fax driver.
Before installation, log into Windows as an Administrator.
If a message prompting you to restart your computer is displayed when using the installer, make sure to restart your computer. If you do not restart your computer, existing drivers may not operate correctly.
If you are using the printer auto-creation mechanism in a Citrix XenApp (Presentation Server) environment, you may not be able to correctly install this driver using the Installer. If so, restart the XenApp Server computer and check the Printers folder ([Printers and Faxes] folder in Windows Server 2003). If any existing printer icons are no longer displayed, re-install the relevant fax drivers in the XenApp Server computer using the Add Printer Wizard in the Printers folder. Then, before starting the Installer to install this driver, disconnect all client printers from all the ICA sessions using the ICA Client Printer Configuration utility. After installing the driver, restart the ICA Client Printer Configuration utility and reconnect the printers.

Accessing Help Information
You can locate additional help for questions you may have regarding your fax in the Online Help file provided with the driver. In the fax properties dialog box, you can click [Help] to display additional information about every feature and option in the fax driver.
Available Number of Destinations
The number of destinations you are able to send to at one time varies according to the following settings.
(1) When [Set the number of destinations that can be specified at once to 2000] is selected:
If [Cover Sheet Attachment] is [None]: 2000
If [Cover Sheet Attachment] is [Different Sheet to Each Destination]: 100
If [Cover Sheet Attachment] is [Same Sheet to All Destinations]: 2000
(2) When [Set the number of destinations that can be specified at once to 2000] is deselected:
If [Cover Sheet Attachment] is [None]: 500
If [Cover Sheet Attachment] is [Different Sheet to Each Destination]: 100
If [Cover Sheet Attachment] is [Same Sheet to All Destinations]: 500
NOTE
|
In the case of groups, the above number of destinations is the number of personal destinations registered in the group.
The specified number of destinations (among the above) is sent separated into multiple jobs. Consequently, in the job printing log list etc., they may be displayed as separate fax transmission files.
There is a limit to the number of fax job destinations that can be retained in the device. In some printer models, after a fax job is sent, if the number of destinations exceeds the limit, the last job(s) sent may be deleted. If destinations exceeding the limit of the group are registered, be careful that the fax is not sent continuously to multiple group destinations.
|
Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions
Do not specify more than 1 for the copies option in the application since the fax may be sent more than once in some applications when the copies option is specified in the application.
If double quotation marks or CSV separators are included in any of the items (Such as name and fax numbers) stored in a CSV file, the addresses stored in the file may not be imported to the address book correctly.
If you have upgraded your operating system from Windows Server 2003/2003 R2 to Windows Vista, you will no longer be able to access the address book. If this is the case, perform the following procedure.
(1) Copy the address book files (gpfax.adr and gpfax.idx) from the system folder (the default system folder is "C:\Windows") to another folder (e.g. "My Documents"). This step can be carried out before or after you upgrade the system.
(2) After you have upgraded the system, reinstall the fax driver in the new system, open the [Edit Address Book] sheet, click the [Specify a folder] button, and choose the folder you copied the address book files to in step 1 (e.g. "My Documents") as the address book folder.
(3) Click the [Yes] button in the following dialog box.
If double quotation marks are included in any of the items (Such as names and fax numbers) stored in an ABK file (*.abk), the addresses stored in the file may not be imported to the address book correctly.
When you log on to an Administrator account that is different from the one used to install the software, you will not be able to access the driver properties with Administrator privileges. To access the driver properties, select [Run as Administrator].
In a 64-bit environment, the address book cannot be used with certain applications. If you are using an application that cannot utilize the address book, convert the address book to a CSV file, then import the CSV file into the fax driver as an address book.
For Windows Server 2008 installed with Server Core option, the following limitations exist on using the fax driver.
You cannot install the driver with the installer. Use the installation options of Windows.
Some fax options are not available under local environment or Windows Remote Desktop environment.
If you forget the password you have set for [Protect with Password when Exporting Address List] in the [Security Settings] dialog box of the [Special] sheet, you will not be able to export the address list. You can still perform operations other than exporting (browsing, adding, editing, deleting, etc.). If you want to export an address list, you will have to recreate the address list you want to export.
You cannot use the following address books with driver versions earlier than version 8.70:
Address books that have been newly created in version 8.70 or later drivers.
Address books that were created in older versions and imported into version 8.70 or later drivers.
However, you can use address books exported to files in driver versions earlier than version 8.70.
If you are using a printer (AutoCreatedPrinter) created with the "Auto Created Client Printer" function of Citrix XenDesktop, you may not be able to use the Department ID Management function or the Get Device Status function.
If this is the case, use the Citrix XenDesktop Universal Printer Driver (UPD), or select a Standard TCP/IP Port for which the IP address of a printer you are actually outputting to have been set.
"Mobile Address Book" may display in Messaging API address book. But the address book contacts will not be listed because the address book does not have fax related information.
If both a printer driver (or fax driver) and a USB-compliant scanner driver are not installed, a device connected by USB is recognized as new hardware, and although the following may occur, driver operations will not be affected.
Windows Vista: A dialog box appears each time you connect the device by USB.
Windows 7/8/8.1/10: The relevant printer(s) in the [Devices and Printers] folder are in a warning state.
The driver is still operable in these states. To avoid these phenomena, install the USB-compliant scanner driver (Color Network ScanGear 2 USB). For instructions on how to install the scanner driver, see the readme file provided with the driver.
Select [Store Sent Fax Information and Image] and the sent image will be stored only on the fax driver. The sent image and send results may not be the same as those on your machine. To check the send results of a sent fax, check the communication logs on your machine.
The communication mode you select when using IP-Fax should match the communication environment of the device. If you do not select the appropriate communication mode, it will lead to incorrect transmissions and send errors.
If you are using a device made for Korea, the USA, or Canada, if you enter more than 40 single-byte numeric characters for the fax number, an error will occur at the device and the fax will not be sent.
If you send using a paper size other than A4, depending on the application, you might not be able to send using the specified paper size. If this happens, reduce the magnification of the original data, specify A4, and resend the fax.
Depending on the application, if the number of destinations in the address book list is large, it might not operate correctly.
Fax images saved with this driver cannot be read by fax drivers prior to version 9.xx.
Profiles created with this driver cannot be used with fax drivers prior to version 9.xx.
When exporting Canon Address Book files (*.abk), you can specify the character code. When importing Canon Address Book files (*.abk), there are some printer models that cannot import a Canon Address Book file (*.abk) unless the character code of the imported file matches a character code supported by the device.
In this driver, only devices supported by fax drivers of version 9.00 or earlier support USB installation.
Before installing this driver, correctly configure the [Control Panel] - [Region and Language] settings (for Windows 10, the [Settings] - [Time & language] - [Region & language] settings). If the correct region is not set, the fax driver may not operate correctly.
This driver can coexist with a version 9.xx or earlier fax driver.
This driver cannot be used to update a version 9.xx or earlier fax driver.
If SNMP is not set at the device, you may not be able to install the driver using [Standard].
If you set characters in the device name that are not supported by the [Control Panel] - [Region and Language] setting (for Windows 10, the [Settings] - [Time & language] - [Region & language] settings), the fax driver may not operate normally.
Depending on the device name set from the device itself, the name may not be displayed correctly when it is searched during [Standard] installation.
In this driver, the editing function of an address book on the network is prohibited. It is not prohibited in an environment where this driver and a version 10.10 or earlier fax driver both exist. However, you cannot save the edited content.
The [Fax Sending Settings] dialog box may not be displayable in a Citrix environment. If this happens, try again after deselecting the [Enable advanced printing features] check box in the [Advanced] tab of [Printer properties].
Restrictions Regarding Device Settings
With this fax driver, if you use printer model-dependent functions, you must get the device information and set beforehand the options that are installed from [Device Settings] – [Get Device Status].
If you cannot get the device information from [Device Settings] – [Get Device Status] (for example, if you are connected via USB), to use the functions corresponding to the printer model you are using, set the attached options manually in the [Device Settings] sheet.
Take care that you do not set functions with the fax driver that are not in the printer model as this can lead to mis-transmissions and transmission errors.
If you set a sender with a printer model that does not have the specify sender function, you will not be able to use that function.
If you select a fax board that is not compatible with the printer model you are using, and select a line that does not match a valid line to send from, there is a possibility that the fax will be sent via a different line.
If you attempt to send with settings that do not match the printer model you are using for the subaddress authentication mode, department ID management authentication mode, and IP fax communication mode, you will not be able to send.
If you specify the send time with a printer model that does not have the send time function, you cannot use that function.
If you specify the subaddress function with a printer model that does not have the subaddress function, you cannot use that function.
If you specify the [Set the number of destinations that can be specified at once to 2000] function and attempt to send with a printer model that does not support that function, this will result in a communication error or transmission error.
If you set department ID management or user authentication with a printer model that does not have the department ID management function or user authentication function, you cannot use that function.
